The bond we share with our pets is very special, and we understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to say goodbye to your pet. Our pets are more than just companions, and at Montgomery Veterinary Associates, we can provide hospice care and end of life services to treat your pet with the utmost respect and compassion to ensure their passing is as peaceful as possible.
If you have any questions regarding pet euthanasia and/or end of life care for your pet, call Montgomery Veterinary Associates today.
What to Expect
It’s not easy to determine when euthanasia is the best option for your pet, and we recommend speaking with your veterinarian when discussing end of life care. Our team will evaluate the mental and physical well being of your pet to consider their quality of life. If it’s determined that euthanasia is the next best step, we will walk you through the following process:
Paperwork & Next Steps
Our team will review the euthanasia process and body care options with you, as well as discuss paperwork and payment. We understand that this is a difficult time, so we are committed to working with you to best accommodate your needs. This would also be the time to ask any questions about the procedure and discuss next steps for your pet.
Saying Goodbye
As always, your pet’s comfort is our priority. We will administer a sedative to ensure your pet is as comfortable and stress free as possible. It typically takes 10-15 minutes for the sedative to take effect and for your pet to fall asleep. Then we will place an IV catheter to provide the euthanasia injection. It may be difficult to place the IV, but this is a common occurrence and will not cause any stress to your pet. When the IV catheter is placed, you will have the option to spend more time with your dog or cat, or we can administer the euthanasia injection. Rest assured, there is no rush to this process. Our team understands this is a difficult time and we welcome you to take as much time as you need with your pet.
Remembrance
After your pet has peacefully passed and you have left the room, we will cover them with a soft blanket. Please speak with a member of our team about our options for keepsakes in remembrance of your pet.
