Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses soundwaves to help us view the internal organs and other structures within the body. Montgomery Veterinary Associates is pleased to offer this advanced technology, because it allows us to perform more comprehensive evaluations of your pet when needed. This, in turn, results in treatment that is more closely tailored to your pet’s needs, and more likely to be successful.
If you need to schedule a checkup or ultrasound procedure, get in touch with us today.
Ultrasound procedures involve using high-frequency soundwaves to generate echoes, which are converted into a real-time, moving image of the internal organs. A gel is applied to the skin where the transducer (handheld device) is placed to allow for more accurate imaging and a more comfortable experience for your pet.
One of the benefits of ultrasound is that it does not use radiation like X-ray does. There are no known side effects from ultrasound procedures, and sedation is rarely necessary for our patients.
Ultrasound is mainly used to view the abdominal soft-tissue organs, including:
- Heart
- Kidneys
- Liver
- Bladder
- Gallbladder
Ultrasound also allows us to check for:
- Cysts
- Fluid in the abdominal cavity
- Abscesses
- Tumors
- Pregnancies
Ultrasound may be used in conjunction with digital X-ray and lab testing if we need help making a definitive diagnosis. We can also work with external specialists to interpret ultrasounds and other images and tests if we need a second opinion.
Our ultimate goal is to use every resource we have available to us to give your pet the best care possible.
